Every action is a conclusion based on an accumulation of past experiences. Nothing we can possibly do is exempt from this. All of our compassion, our hatred, our curiosity, our altruism, our pessimism; everything's a result of all the thoughts retained and often long forgotten about. Your future was being shaped since before you were born, so it's not like you ever had the chance to object in the first place; but you are wholly responsible for the outcome, despite your inability to personally influence factors that influenced you so long ago. You are conscious and you are aware that you are the only one that can ultimately act for yourself, despite that action not being in any way totally self motivated. You can take the compassion that I'm trying to project and give it to others as wholly as you interpret it, or you can feed on my contempt for past circumstances and feel motivation for hatred. I can't stop you either way; I can only emphasize self awareness in order to try and evoke as much empathy, positive action, and compassion as possible.
